A few more projects....

As I stated in my previous post, here are a few more pictures of some more of the projects we've been working on this winter.

A few of our winter projects.....

     The winter time provides the golf maintenance staff with a little more time to work on projects as the demand for mowing, irrigation and course upkeep is not as high mainly due to lower temperatures (although it is 74 degrees outside as I write this!!).
     Each summer we begin a list of projects we would like to accomplish during the winter and begin to prioritize as we near fall. The "list" is ongoing and will never be without a hundred different ideas and projects as we continue to try to improve our product for our customers. So in the next few pictures I will try to highlight a few of the projects you may or may not have seen us working on these past couple of months.

Happy (Belated) New Year!!!

So it's a little after new years and I'm finally posting again on the blog. Since my last blog in November, the maintenance staff has gone through a whirlwind of weather circumstance but come through it all to now possible having to water soon. The month of December brought us 4.84" of rain and a few frosty mornings while the month of January started out wet and has turned into some of the most beautiful weather we've had in the last couple of months. I hope that those of you that are local have been playing alot as conditions and weather couldn't be better.

 In the next few days I will be posting some pictures of the projects we have been working on over the last couple months. But before I do that I wanted to post a picture of my crew and publicly let them know that I am very proud to have all of them and the accomplishments that we as a team have made in the last couple of years. I am also very excited to have this team as we move into the new year with new challenges. Thanks again guys! 

Rain, Rain, Rain now Frost, Frost, Frost

After a couple fabulous weeks of weather earlier this month, it now looks like we are finally getting to some winter weather. In the last five days we have received 1.34" of rain and now that the rain looks to have slowed down the cold weather is upon us. As I write this post it is 31 degrees and dropping. The chance for frost looks good through Friday morning.  Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Drain in front of #6 Green

Over the last couple months the maintenance staff has been working to dry up the area in front of #6 green over to the ladies tee on #5. The staff is in the final stages of the last of three drains that will hopefully get this area a little drier and more playable. Once the drainage and rock are in place we will come back and sod over the drains to create a more playable look. All but one of the drains were put in to help move water from old drains into the new drainage system. Thanks to our assistant superintendent, Tom Laycock, for orchestrating the design and making this project move in the right direction. Below is a picture of the last drain that is being put in at the beginning of the approach on #6.

Light verti-cut today and Light topdress tomorrow

This morning we did a light verti-cut on the greens and tomorrow we will do a light topdress with the tycrop (see picture below). The sand is used to help dilute our thatch and smooth out the greens.
